Michelle J.
Private tutor in Durham, NC
Education
My name is Michelle Jackson. I am currently a 2nd year PhD student in biology at Duke University. I graduated in May 2015 from Smith College in Northampton, MA, with high honors and a Bachelor of Arts in biological sciences. I also minored in environmental science and policy. I participated in the Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship throughout my college career and have extensive experience conducting biological research as an undergrad.
Experience
I have previous and current experience as a teaching assistant to college students. While my doctoral research focus is in plant ecology, I have experience teaching courses from biodiversity to cell biology. As a first-generation college student, I am very passionate about supporting underrepresented students, who often struggle in STEM classes. I believe they are the future scientists of the generation to come that will be crucial in solving many of the ecological problems we face today.

Hobbies
When I am not working on my research, I like to spend time with nebelung cat, Kyla. My research has also taken me to many places around the United States and abroad, so I enjoy traveling as well. Not to mention, my studies are field-based, so that has instilled in me a love of the great outdoors, so whenever I get the chance, I like to go hiking.
