Throughout my lifetime so far, I have developed a strong interest in learning and teaching. As the eldest of three girls, and of my nine cousins, I began "playing" teacher at a young age, teaching my sisters and cousins multiplication, genetics, and editing their writing. I attended a magnet high school for science, mathematics, and computer science, where I truly began to love science and math. I took multi-variable calculus my senior year of high school and took numerous AP classes, eventually enrolling into college with 35 credits already under my belt.
At Maryland, I was an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant for Organic Chemistry, General Chemistry, and Biology for three out of the four years I studied there. As such, I assisted students in the laboratory, graded exams, created assignments, and held regular office hours to explain the theory behind the science to students. I also was a tutor for science, math, and writing. As a result, I have developed methods to keep students engaged with the material and have come to learn how to relate complicated material to others in a digestible manner. Additionally, I was an Undergraduate Research Assistant on genetics research.
As a dual-degree candidate, I not only focused on the sciences, but also honed my academic research and writing skills as a Government/Politics major. I also was in the Honors Humanities program at Maryland, an honors program where students become even stronger writers and readers. Additionally, during my senior year of college, I wrote an 80 page thesis on the relationship between the Supreme Court and Congress, for which I was given High Honors.
I excelled in high school and college and am now a student at Duke Law School, where I strive to become an even better student. I enjoy working with students of all ages, and I have missed the opportunity to do so. My priority is to make sure that the student is getting what he/she wants out of our sessions, and I am happy to make accommodations to my teaching style based on feedback.
I look forward to working with you!
HobbiesI have learned and taught Indian Classical Dance for over fifteen years. I enjoy watching t.v., traveling, and cooking. I studied abroad in Australia for a semester in undergrad, and led several service trips to New Orleans and the Dominican Republic when I was at Maryland, as well. I also enjoy watching sports, especially football and baseball.
